I heard a very profound statement the other day, and thought I'd share.

"The power in a relationship lies with whoever cares the least,.....but power is not happiness"

    How true?!

    Niks,

I believe we do this to make them happy. In our own minds we think if we make them happy that happy = loving. We give what we expect in return. When feelings are not returned instead of making a logical decision to not give them what makes them happy, we tend to try harder until we are exhausted or eventually give up from trying. (or they leave us eventually and we are faced feeling worse than ever)

This is merely my two cents worth.

Dan and Dave - I would have to agree!

I think we all fall for that power game at some point, Niks...maybe we have to in order to learn better.

When in doubt, give 'em two tickets to the "gun show"! *holds up spindly, non-threatening biceps*

You'll feel that way for awhile, but it wears off as you heal - I promise. It wasn't until only recently that I closed the book on my ex completely. I'm not even sure how it happened...it just felt like time to "clock out," so to speak.

It took me about 3 years...only because I can hold onto hurt like a koala to a tree branch. Or like cling film clings to...well...everything except what it's SUPPOSED to be clinging to. But try not to hold onto hurt for as long as I did...I certainly don't recommend it.

You've already learned so much, niks...I don't think you'd let this happen to you again!

But sculpting your "guns" certainly isn't a bad idea...just in case. ;)

LOL , cling film , you really crack me up. I'm really glad you've managed to get rid of your hurt everyone heals in their own time right?

I tend to bury hurt, which is all very good until something uncovers it, I'm not going to that this time.

I wanna be happy, he can shove his power ...

That's the spirit Niks Hiding your pain from the world just causes it to mount and more difficult to deal with when it finally does surface, because it ALWAYS does, whether it's via an emotional breakdown or physical condition.

You're doing great Niks, even though I know you don't think you are.

It is not always true that power lies to the one who cares less. I am capable of walking out on anything if it is not to my satisfaction, even if feelings are very strong. I think the power is the ability to walk away and let go. Far from it that I crave to be a "leader", it is just that I don't want to accept certain things.

So, all you need to do is let go gradually. Build new habits instead of those you had when you were spending time with your partner. Do things you always wanted, but just never done for one reason or another. It is the fastest way to change your emotions (discounting another guy, of course ;)).
